Applies to VoipNow 3 and higher!

This article explains how to set up a LG-NORTEL IP8815 phone terminal that will be used with the VoipNow phone provisioning module. These recommendations also apply if you happen to do this for the very first time.

Phone installation

Assuming that your phone is reset to the default configuration:

  1. Plug one end of the handset cord (short straight section) into the handset and the other end of the handset cord (long straight section) into the handset jack at the back of the IP Phone. From a small bend in the cord, thread the cord through the wiring channel.
  2. This IP Phone supports both AC power and Power over Ethernet (PoE). To use AC power, plug the power adapter and the Ethernet cable into a LAN connection. To use PoE, plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the LAN Ethernet port at the back of your IP Phone and the other end into a PoE port from your network device. In this case, you don't need a power adapter.
  3. Power up your phone.

For more information on the physical installation steps, check the phone terminal's users guide provided by the vendor.

Configuration of phone network parameters

The phone network parameters are configured using the configuration menu displayed on screen. To access it, press the Settings button available in the right hand side of the phone keypad. You can use the soft keys and the dial pad to select menu items and input values.

If you want to change the phone language, take the following steps:

  1. Press the Settings button.
  2. Go to the third option, Phone settings, by pressing the 3 key from the dial pad.
  3. Use the Next soft key to find the eleventh option, Language, and select it by pressing the OK soft key.

The phone will display Select your language, allowing you to choose from a number of options. You can navigate through the list using the Next/Previous soft keys and select a language by pressing OK. The following message will be displayed on screen:

The value is modified. You need to reboot.

You will be able to choose if you want to reboot the device after each modified setting or only at the end of the configuration process.

Open the configuration menu again and select the first option by pressing the 1 key from the dial pad to configure the network parameters:

  1. The first parameter that needs to be configured is Network Mode. By pressing the 1 key from the dial pad, the phone will display two options for Network Mode: DHCP and Static. Choose one of them.

If the administrator has set up DHCP, select DHCP and press the OK soft key on the phone pad. The phone will automatically receive an IP from the DHCP server and will reboot.

If the selected option is Static, you must manually assign an IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, primary and secondary DNS.

  2. Press the 2 key from the dial pad to set up the IP address. The phone prompts you to enter the IP address assigned to the phone. This address must be provided by the network administrator.

Use the digits on the phone keypad to enter the address, the Clear soft key to delete an incorrect digit and, after dialing the entire IP address, the OK button to save it. The following message will be displayed on screen:

The value is modified. You need to reboot.

You will be able to choose if you want to reboot the device after each modified setting or only at the end of the configuration process. Select the second option.

  3. Press the 3 key from the dial pad to configure the subnet mask. The phone prompts you to enter the netmask that must be provided by the network administrator.

Use the digits on the phone keypad to enter the netmask, the Clear soft key to delete an incorrect digit and, after dialing the entire IP address, the OK button to save it. The following message will be displayed on screen:

The value is modified. You need to reboot.

You will be able to choose if you want to reboot the device after each modified setting or only at the end of the configuration process. Select the second option.

  4. Press the 4 key from the dial pad to configure the Default gateway. The phone prompts you to enter the default gateway's IP address. This address must be provided by the network administrator.

Use the digits on the phone keypad to enter the gateway address, the Clear soft key to delete an incorrect digit and, after dialing the entire IP address, the OK button to save it. The following message will be displayed on screen:

The value is modified. You need to reboot.

You will be able to choose if you want to reboot the device after each modified setting or only at the end of the configuration process. Select the second option.

  5. Press the 5 key from the dial pad to set up the Primary DNS address. The phone prompts you to enter the IP address of the DNS server. This address must be provided by the network administrator.

Use the digits on the phone keypad to enter the primary DNS address, the Clear soft key to delete an incorrect digit and, after dialing the entire IP address, the OK button to save it. The following message will be displayed on screen:

The value is modified. You need to reboot.

You will be able to choose if you want to reboot the device after each modified setting or only at the end of the configuration process. Select the second option.

  6. Press the 6 key from the dial pad to set up the Secondary DNS address. The phone prompts you to enter the IP address of the Secondary DNS server. This address must be provided by the network administrator.

Use the digits on the phone keypad to enter the secondary DNS address, the Clear soft key to delete an incorrect digit and, after dialing the entire IP address, the OK button to save it. The following message will be displayed on screen:

The value is modified. You need to reboot.

You will be able to choose if you want to reboot the device after each modified setting or only at the end of the configuration process. Select the second option.

The configuration of the secondary DNS address is optional. If you do not specify another address, then the default 0.0.0.0 will be used.

  7. At this point you should be able to view your MAC address, using the 7 key from the dial pad. Note that this address cannot be modified.

For the new values to be effective, you have to reboot the device.

After assigning the phone an IP address, you will be able to configure the device using the Web Manager. To do so, follow the next steps:

  1. Point your browser at the IP8815 phone IP address, using port 8000, for example http://192.168.1.14:8000The IP Phone Login page will be displayed.
  2. Click Login and enter the username and the password. By default, the username is private and the password is lip.
